Hospitals welcome year's first deliveries
New bundles of joy arrived as the first babies of the new year at Triangle hospitals early Thursday.
Posted — UpdatedStaff at Duke University Hospital delivered the Triangle's first baby – Dayanna Platt – at 1:05 a.m.
Meanwhile, Raleigh's first new baby – a boy, Camrin – arrived after three hours of labor by his mother, Jacqueline Pugh, at WakeMed.
"I set my clock to wake me up 20 minutes after the new year, and I found out I was in labor," Pugh said. Camrin arrived at 2:28 a.m.
"He wanted to be first, and you are the first one, No. 1," she told her newborn son.
For Pugh, the new birth was old hat – Camrin was her sixth child.
At Cape Fear Valley Medical Center's first baby – Ava McKenzie – was born at 2:05 a.m., officials said.
