— A Hope Mills woman was found dead after a fire at her Rustic Trail house early Monday, according to a spokeswoman for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Spokeswoman Debbie Tanna said the woman possibly dropped a cigarette, sparking the fire around 4 a.m. The cause of her death hasn't been determined, and her name hasn't been released.

Authorities said the woman had terminal cancer, and emergency responders were called out to her home earlier Monday when she suffered breathing problems.

I’m sorry to hear about this tragedy. If you smoke or live with someone who smokes, putting out a cigarette the right way only takes seconds and can save lives. Here’s a link to information about how to prevent home fires caused by smoking. http://1.usa.gov/yi5rpS

Which raises a question. Does this go down as a smoking related death? Does it add to the 450k/year who die from smoking?

This is so tragic! My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.
