— The Town of Holly Springs is considering a ban on what residents can leave in the street overnight.

The ban would include items like basketball hoops, mulch, bicycles and hockey goals.

“Cars are driving down the street and police may need to get through,” Councilwoman Linda Williams said. “If there’s a real emergency, they have to stop, remove the obstacle and then move forwards.”

Council members said people have complained about items left in the street.

"Why does Holly Springs hate America so much?"
Holly Springs values property values! Too bad the rest don't!

actually when i see a hoop in the street i think ghetto. not holly springs. when i see a hoop in a driveway, that is a completely different thing and i think "american". Leonardo is somewhat right.

and i think they are not talking about on the sides of the street but actually in the MIDDLE of the street. At least that would be my interpretation of the article.

mentalgoose - "There is nothing more American than a community basketball hoop in the cul de sac. This ban is anti-American. Why does Holly Springs hate America so much?"

A "community" basketball hoop? What are you, a communist? A true-blooded American has his own basketball hoop on his own property, and shoots anyone who comes on his property to try to use it.

ummmm, the HOA covenants state "no parking in street" though they can't enforce them as people have discovered. As far as where to park, 9/10 of the homes in my hood have 2 car garages plus driveway. More like 98/100 homes. If you can't park 2 or 3 cars on your property, wow. Most people use the garage for storage space these days and park on the street. I don't know. I like my cars being out of the weather and safe and they signed a contract stating they would not park on the street. Seems like they could be sued for breach or something even if it is "legal".

As far as the kids, my kids don't do that as I have them only in back yard and they are bigger now. I am talking about other's kids. It is an accident waiting to happen.

silerflash: umm where are people going to park if you cant park in the street? RIDICULOUS! watch ur children and they wont get runned down!

"The reason they cannot enforce it is because you are allowed by law to park on the side of the road. The HOA cannot have a rule that is in conflict with a current state law."
well i thought that was a town ordinance thing and not a state thing? can i park a boat on the side of the street then??

i live in an hoa subdivision and use my firepit in the back yard all the time to roast hot dogs/marsh mellows with the kids. Love it! I think parking on street is ok short term for like partys etc but long term is hazardous and takes away from the appeal of the n-hood. the stuff int he streets? yeah, i can see that being a problem. the stree is for driving not storing your goods.

"HOA says no parking allowed on street yet people do because HOA cannot enforce!"...silverflash

The reason they cannot enforce it is because you are allowed by law to park on the side of the road. The HOA cannot have a rule that is in conflict with a current state law.
