RAEFORD, N.C. — A Raeford man was arrested Monday after he allegedly used plastic zip ties to bind his wife's wrists and ankles together while he assaulted her, according to the Hoke County Sheriff's Office.

Richard Alan Whitehurst, 33, of 301 McDougald Drive, was charged with second-degree kidnapping and assault on a female and jailed under a $30,000 secured bond.

His wife, Donna Whitehurst, took out a domestic violence protective order against him, authorities said.

Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said Tuesday that the couple got into an argument in the early morning hours Monday and that Richard Whitehurst ripped of his wife's clothing, bound her wrists and ankles, threw her into the bathtub and continued to assault her for 15 minutes.

When he cut her loose, Donna Whitehurst got dressed and ran down McDougald Drive to call her mother for help. She called 911 around 5:30 a.m.
