Raeford, N.C. — An inmate died after being found unresponsive in his cell at the Hoke County Detention late Saturday morning, Sheriff Hubert A. Peterkin said.
Cofrey Deshon Dockery, 34, of Raeford, did not respond to an detention officer doing a routine security check at 11:15 a.m., Peterkin said. The detention officer entered Dockery's cell and found him unresponsive.

Doctors pronounced Dockery dead at 12:15 p.m., the sheriff said.
Peterkin said he has asked the State Bureau of Investigation to help investigate the death.
