Henderson stepfather charged with abusing toddler

An 18-month-old girl was in critical condition at UNC Children's Hospital and her stepfather was arrested Thursday on charges that he abused the toddler.

HENDERSON, N.C. — An 18-month-old girl was in critical condition at UNC Children’s Hospital and her stepfather was arrested Thursday on charges that he abused the toddler.

Henderson police charged Dontavious Washington, 23, of 130 Booth Ave., with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.

Emergency crews responded to the family’s home around 1:20 a.m. Thursday after the girl went into cardiac arrest.

Destini Bullock was taken to Maria Parham Medical Center with traumatic head injuries, and police said they determined that she had been abused.

The girl was later taken to UNC Children’s Hospital.  

Washington was being held on a $125,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 31.
