It only takes @15 seconds of vigorous shaking to do irreversible brain damage to an infant. A forensic pediatrician can diagnose rotational head injury based upon numerous physical symptoms. Most criminal cases are dependent on this type of information for prosecution because the victim is incapable of testifying.

I wish we could just let the Mark Moretti guy over in Fayetteville run him over with his SUV a couple of dozen times. Save us all the money on the trial only to have him release in a couple of years.

This is so sad it brings tears to my eyes. This happened to someone close to me several months ago. You cannot trust everyone with your child. Mothers' need to wake up and stop bringing all these men around their children. Alot of the Mother's will put their children "IN HARMS WAY" just to keep a man. In most cases these so called boyfriends and step-daddys are living off the woman. While she is at work they riding her car up and down the road, Spending her food stamps, living in her home and not paying any bills. "WAKE UP MOTHERS AND PUT YOUR CHILDREN FIRST"

"Just curious - do prisoners get internet access these days? Can they google the criminal history of their co-prisoners?"

I've known a couple of prison employees over the years and a few from that area and when someone like this enters the system it "gets out" why they are in there. Regardless of what those people are in prison for they do not tolerate child abusers and molesters.

In my opinion, the mother is just as guilty as the step-father. Hopefully, they will charge her as well when the facts are all in. You cannot trust your children to anybody. But, the article said EMS was called at 1:00 am, so was she there? Did she know about this? Was she a part of this? I hope and pray all of these questions are answered.

The7thSeal, I did think about that before I posted my comment, but honestly..do you really think he will be 'punished' accordingly by NC's judicial system? Also, why does he even have a bond set if he did all those [heresay] things to the baby? Why did the magistrate even give him a bond? Sadly, his bond will be probably be lowered the longer he sits in jail awaiting his court dates. I dunno, maybe I am losing faith in the court system and the way the police handle things, such as evidence.

i'm surprised no one has offered up the 'innocent until proven guilty' excuse like you do for white perps

A trip behind the woodshed would solve this issue

Why is his bond so low? We need some new laws or guidance regarding bond amounts and the crimes associated with the amounts. This is shameful that his bond is only $125,000. Regardless of whether he can come up with it or not since it is secured, why is able to get a bond anyway?

    Prayers for the child.

"Nah, I say lower his bond just enough so he can get out. This way everyone will be waiting for him & welcoming him back into society :)

Right......and everyone can go back to jail with him?Wake up this is reality...not some TV show.Allow the law to do what it was created to do.
