RALEIGH, N.C. — Military helicopters hovering over parts of Wake and Granville counties Monday afternoon were part of a North Carolina National Guard training, a spokesman said.

Maj. Matt Handley said two AH-64 Apache helicopters were taking part in exercises in night operations and team tactics in airspace around the National Guard training area of Camp Butner, near Stem.

Several residents reported helicopters with searchlights flying in the area of the Durant Trails and North Ridge neighborhoods off Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh and also on Lawrence Road in Granville County.

Handley said the helicopters’ flight pattern took them over those areas.
