HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — A friend of the 32-year-old who was shot and killed Thursday inside his home at Masons Mobile Home Park in Harnett County believes the motive was robbery.

According to police, Antonio McMillian was shot and killed at about 6:10 a.m. in the home on Gordon Lane.

"He was a good guy," said Curtis Campbell, a close friend of McMillian's. "He wore his heart on his sleeve. He did anything he could for the community. He was just an outstanding guy."

Neighbors told investigators they heard a gunshot, and when they looked outside, they did not see anything suspicious.

Harnett County Sheriff Wayne Coats said McMillian's name was not on the lease, but he was staying at the home. He said it appears that McMillian was shot at close range while sitting on his sofa.

"I picked him up that night to go see a girl and brought the girl back here," Campbell said. "In the morning, he gave me a text. (Police have my phone. – delete?) He said, 'Are you still awake?' I was asleep. I feel like if I were awake he'd be alive."

Campbell said the woman that he left McMillian with has disappeared.

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
