Groups provide Thanksgiving dinners to needy military families
An estimated 20 percent of the families of soldiers at Fort Bragg live in poverty, so two groups are working to give hundreds of those families something to be thankful for this holiday season.
Posted — UpdatedIn the "Thanks for Giving" program, Operation Homefront provided 25 pounds of goods to 400 soldiers and their families on Thursday. The families also received 10 pounds of items from Feed the Children and a frozen turkey.
"This is amazing. This is our first time ever here, and this set up is amazing. It's the most I've ever seen in my life," said Misty Wharton, the wife of a Fort Bragg soldier. "We're so grateful. We literally just moved here, so this is going to help out so much with us and our children and actually give them a Thanksgiving they deserve. So. like I said, I'm all teary-eyed."
"This is big to our family. A lot of people think that the military is rich, and they're not," said Saare White, a soldier's wife. "Just to know that people care enough about our family to give us a full meal, I'm extremely thankful because we're trying to make ends meet, and this makes things whole lot comfortable."
