Flextronics Ltd. plans to shutter a Granville County plant that makes, among other things, Redbox DVD rental kiosks.

The Singapore-based company filed notice of the plant closure last week with the state Department of Commerce. The notice states that the Creedmoor plant will close by the end of February, putting 157 people out of work.

There was no word on the reason for the closure.

Flextronics last May celebrated the production of its 25,000th Redbox kiosk from the plant, and officials called the milestone a testament to the strong partnership between the two companies.

Can everyone work at Walmart, McD's or the hospital?

Yep, everyone laughed at the funny little guy with the ears. So what if he ran the largest payroll processor in the country, what did he know about employment patterns?

that the sucking sound you are hearing are jobs leaving the US. That could not have been more true.

Ross Pero stated that.

Couldn't be anymore true. Furniture went straight there ask any one west of Greensboro.

The majority of their work ended up in Mexico once Nortel was sold off.

Thanks NAFTA. Romney even mentioned expanding NAFTA during his campaign. I guess Flex was doomed no matter how the election ended. Folks have been so worried about jobs going to China, but Mexico is where they have been going since NAFTA went into effect. I remember the debates about NAFTA where non-supporters were saying that the sucking sound you are hearing are jobs leaving the US. That could not have been more true.
