Granville County officials put down bear struck by car on I-85

Granville County authorities put down a bear on Interstate 85 after it was hit by a vehicle, officials said.

OXFORD, N.C. — Granville County authorities put down a bear on Interstate 85 Friday morning after it was hit by a vehicle, officials said.

The bear was hit by a car near the rest area at mile marker 202 in the northbound lanes of I-85, according to the Granville County Sheriff's Office. The driver drove off.

Authorities said all the bear's legs were broken, and wildlife officials said the bear would have to be put down.
