Grant to help Durham students interested in science, math
A $260,000 grant from a Boston-based real estate firm will help students in Durham who want to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

The grant, from Longfellow Real Estate Partners, was announced Wednesday in a ceremony at Duke University’s Talent Identification Program.
The money will distributed to Durham Technical Community College, Durham Workforce Development Board and Duke University, which are in partnership with Duke TIP to provide academic resources and financial aid for promising students pursuing STEM-related fields of study.
“The city has high expectations for the new Durham Innovation District’s ability to attract STEM companies to Durham,” Kevin Dick, director of the Durham’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development, said. “The Longfellow grant will help ensure the district’s future by creating innovative thought leaders to anchor its success for generations to come.”
The partnership will provide talent for the Durham Innovation District, an emerging downtown area now being transformed into a hub for life-science and technology companies.
