CLARKTON, N.C. — The grandfather of a 9-day-old infant mauled last month by dogs has been charged in her death, Bladen County authorities said Wednesday.

Nelson Ernest Camerino was arrested on Tuesday. He is charged with involuntary manslaughter.

A Bladen County grand jury indicted Camerino and the child's mother, Chelsea Briggs, 18, of 10140 N. College St. in Clarkton, on Friday during a special session. Briggs, who is also charged with involuntary manslaughter, was released on bond.

Addyson Paige Camerino was killed on Aug. 30 after several dogs in the home attacked her, authorities said. Five dogs were removed from the home, which authorities said was shared by Briggs, the baby, Briggs' parents, brothers and a tenant.

Camerino remains in custody under a $150,000 bond.
