Grand jury indicts man in fatal IHOP shooting

The Durham man charged with murder for a shooting at a Durham IHOP restaurant was indicted Monday by a Durham County grand jury.

DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham man charged with murder for a shooting at a Durham IHOP restaurant was indicted Monday by a Durham County grand jury.

Jerry Lee Adams, 21, of 200 Seven Oaks Road, faces charges of murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury for the shooting Oct. 8.

Delia Allen, 46, was killed and two people were wounded when, police say, Adams opened fire on the restaurant at at 1821 North Pointe Drive.

Durham police said a combination of community tips and information from witnesses helped identify Adams as the suspect.

Adams has served probation for five misdemeanor convictions, including drug charges, according to state Department of Correction records. Court records show he recently failed to appear in court on misdemeanor drug and traffic charges. Previous charges of trespassing and assault against him were voluntarily dismissed.
