Gas station altercation leads to car chase, shooting, Durham sheriff says

Authorities are investigating a shooting early Friday morning stemming from an altercation at a gas station and subsequent car chase.

DURHAM, N.C. — Authorities are investigating a shooting early Friday morning stemming from an altercation at a gas station and subsequent car chase.

The Durham County Sheriff's Office was called to the Wilco Hess gas station in the 1400 block of South Miami Boulevard at 3:30 a.m. A preliminary investigation revealed a shooting suspect pursued a victim's vehicle after leaving the gas station.

During the pursuit, the suspect shot at the victim's vehicle while driving along U.S. Highway 70 West, officials said, before crashing at the intersection of Holloway Street and North Driver. An unknown number of people abandoned the car and fled on foot.

EMS transported one man to the hospital from the suspect's car when he collapsed due to injuries sustained in the crash. His condition is unknown.

The occupants of the victim's vehicle drove to Duke University Hospital. A woman is undergoing treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Identities of the suspects or victims were not released.
