<b>FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C.</b> — A Wake County grand jury has indicted Fuquay-Varina Town Commissioner Jim Abernethy on sex abuse charges.

Abernethy faces two counts of indecent liberties with a child. Though he was not in jail Wednesday as of 9 p.m. Wednesday, he could not be reached for comment.

Mayor John W. Byrne declined to discuss the charges.
