Fuquay-Varina selects new town manager

Posted November 21, 2013

— Fuquay-Varina officials announced on Thursday that the town has appointed Adam Mitchell to become its next town manager.

Mitchell, who has served as the town manager in Ayden for the past 10 years, will begin his tenure in Fuquay-Varina on Jan. 6, 2014.

“During the process, it became crystal clear to everyone that Adam Mitchell was the right candidate to lead Fuquay-Varina into the future,” Mayor John W. Byrne said in a statement. “Adam understands the challenges that Fuquay-Varina faces as a fast-growing town, and he also understands the direction this board wants to take in the future.”

Mitchell replaces John Barlow, who resigned in July, and will receive an annual salary of $130,000.

Town Government needs to focus on bringing Fuquay Varina into the 21st Century as neighboring towns Apex and Holly Springs have been doing for the past few years.

When accepting a new job it is always interesting to know why the last person left! The past can sometimes be a prediction of the future.
