DURHAM, N.C. — A car that ran off the road in Durham Tuesday night damaged Frontier Communications switching equipment, knocking out telephone and internet service for several hundred customers.

Customers in the areas of Terry Road, Bivens Road and St. Mary’s Road were offline through Wednesday morning while Frontier technicians worked to re-establish their connection.

The car plowed into a box housing Frontier equipment and pushed it off the foundation.

Full service may take days to restore, Frontier said in a news release.
