Age has nothing to do with it if a person is healthy and has good eye sight. My mother is 86 and is still driving anywhere she wants to go and she is an excellent driver.

Lucky you! Not the case for everyone and my Dad, as I said before, is in good health, aging and his driving has really become unsafe. Age has a whole lot to do with it, their reaction time is not as good and many other factors contribute to bad driving by the seniors. They should be tested more frequently, safer for everybody.

I am all for an older person keeping their rights as long as possible but they need to test them more often as they age. Some I have come across have NO business operating a shopping cart let alone an automobile. chrisnrali

I could not agree more. My Dad is a good example!

I dont know why folks are complaining about the man's age...He pulled out in front of a vehicle whether he was 30 60 90 or 100 the results would have not changed for that matter.

A sober 82 year old driver is about as safe as a 41 year old driver registering a .16 BAC.

Another elderly bad driver. We should take a drivers license away when they are 80. We don't let a 12 year old drive and we shouldn't let an 80 year old drive for similar reasons.

lasm, If you need to see an example of car being used as a lethal weapon go here: http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/3432689/

lasm - The deceased was 56 and the driver that hit her in his 80's according to the story, so I guess your comments are ignorant as well. And yes a car is a lethal weapon when it is not properly controlled. Out of control, it can kill as in this case. Has absolutely nothing to do with guns.

  • lasm Aug 27, 2012

It's a CAR-not a "lethal weapon". That comment is as ignorant as saying a gun kills people-instead of a "person" using a gun killed someone. But you are correct, deliahk2000, people definitely do not pay attention like they should. We of the older generation were taught that you should NEVER lose your concentration while driving. We, as adults, know how hard this is at times; and it is one of the reasons the laws for new teenage drivers have been changed in recent years-as we know that the younger generation have not accomplished that kind of concentration (especially while having other teens in the car with them) at their young age.

Does anyone know about any injures suffered by the man who caused the accident? Prayers for both families are appropriate.....
