Franklinton woman dies in ATV accident

Posted March 7, 2011

— A Franklinton woman died Monday from injuries she suffered Friday while riding an all-terrain vehicle, authorities said.

Niki Edwards, who was in her early 20s, was part of a group of people riding ATVs on Sims Bridge Road near the Mitchiners Crossroads community late Friday. Authorities said Edwards hit a cable that was strung across the road and was knocked off her vehicle.

She suffered head and neck injuries and was taken to Franklin Regional Medical Center for treatment. She was later airlifted to Duke University Hospital, where she died.

Niki Edwards was a Well mannered && Beautiful young lady. People that don't know her & Are saying that she was trespassing. How would yall know? Yall didn't know her. Its obvious Niki had rode these paths before and she never thought there would have been a chain in the middle of a path. & Furthermore, The chain should have been marked, They should also be checked regularly to make sure they are still there. I honestly don't care who gets charged or what happens. I just want people to Feel bad for the awful stuff they have said. She was a nice young women So show some respect, Meanies.!

as far as "HereandNow99" I understand what your saying but as for "Of course, we don’t know exactly what happened here...but we need to be free to discuss options and possibilities" you may not know what happened here, but her friends and loved ones do. She WAS NOT tresspassing and had been there hundreds of times to ride, will full permission! The cable had never been there before. She didnt expect it, and by the time she saw it it was too late. Yes "good" people can do "bad things that is understandable, but not in this case with Niki. The reason this is a "funeral home for the deceased" is that she was a well know, very liked girl, and this is a sore subject for many.

Stop promoting censorship. This is an online message board, not a funeral home for the deceased. Lots of stuff gets talked about here and it's no place for censorship of ideas.

What we talk about here on golo can help other people not make the same mistakes, discuss changes that might need to be made in society and maybe even learn something ourselves.

As for questioning our "morals" for posting... you may want to actually read some comments and questions here. For instance, it's possible that someone (even a seemingly "good" person) could be trespassing and then gets killed because the landowner got sick and tired of people constantly trashing his land and ignoring the law.

This may be a shock for you, but even "good" people do “bad” things. Of course, we don’t know exactly what happened here...but we need to be free to discuss options and possibilities. And, there’s nothing immoral about that.

I had the pleasure of taking a college course with Niki and can speak of her character. She was a very bright person with a beautiful personality. People like to read and jump to conclusions but she was a very good person that had a bright future. Class will not be the same without her presence. She will be missed. My condolences go to the family of this terrible tragedy.

It is amazing to me how insensitive people can be. This was a kind beautiful young lady who lost her life. Please have a little respect for this wonderful person and her family. Thank you "mamahunt" for your comments.Rest well in the arms of God Niki - we miss you.

Look, what it boils down to is a humanbeing died!! Someone who will be missed by not only by family and friends but the whole community! And yes she had permission to ride on that property, and yes this was not her first time riding. Hello we live in the country and most of us learn how to ride atv's before we can ride a bike! It was nothing more than an accident and you people need to respect this young womans life!! Show a lil bit of MORALS...something most people have. RIP Niki you are loved and will be missed no matter what some disrespectful folks may say

I am sending out prayers for the family and the kids who had to experience this terrible accident. May they come away from this with greater knowledge and understanding of how precious life is. They lost a sister and a great friend. My heart goes out to them.
