Four townhomes damaged in fire at Caddell Woods in Wake Forest
Four townhomes were damaged Friday - one was a total loss - in a fire at the Caddell Woods subdivision in Wake Forest.
Posted — UpdatedThe fire was reported at 2914 Gross Ave., but firefighters had yet to determine where it had started or the precise cause.
From Sky 5, holes could be seen in the roofs of at least three units of a four-unit group.
"We didn't really have a lot of time to react. We just started screaming grabbing our purses and keys and animal and ran out of the house," said Lisa Shorter, whose home was damaged in the fire.
One person taken to the hospital with minor smoke inhalation, firefighters said.
As the fire was brought under control, firefighters dealt also with the hottest day of the year so far. The temperature reached 97 degrees Friday afternoon at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, and humidity was at about 50 percent. They were visible taking breaks in the shade and taking shifts dealing with the blaze.
"When a crew that's been working inside comes out they hydrate, and today we were lucky to have the EMS mobile unit with us, with air conditioning, so they were able to go in there and rehab," said Battalion Chief Edward Barrett.
One person was treated for smoke inhalation and one kitten is missing, officials said.
According to Zillow, townhomes in that community average three bedrooms, three bathrooms and just under 1,500 square feet. Recent sale prices range from $145,000 up to $172,000.
