— Seven people were hospitalized after a tire blew on a passenger van traveling west on Interstate 40 in Sampson County near Faison on Sunday, state troopers said.

Four people were thrown from the vehicle.

A 1992 Chevrolet van was carrying nine people when the driver lost control and went off the road to the right. Two children and two adults were ejected, but none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

"It's a miracle," Trooper H.G. Lewis said.

Two passengers were taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh and five others were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro. Troopers said they were all conscious and alert.

"those vans are supposed to carry 7 people maybe to much weight for the tires and maybe one of them already on the verge of breaking and that extra weight didn't help"

semichel, what's worse is if it was the base model lumina it would have been a 5 person seating cap....that's almost double. I can almost promise the tires were bald too.

@semichel the van was a big van not a mini van, I got caught right behind the accident in the traffic. Judging by that it closed 40 down for almost an hour and the state of the van when we passed it, I am truly thankful no one was injured and you should too.
