RALEIGH, N.C. — Drivers who use Interstate 40 West to access South Saunders Street will notice big changes at the end of the week as crews continue to ramp up their efforts on the bigger section of the Fortify highway rebuild.

Beginning Friday night, weather permitting, the ramp for Exit 298-A, which puts traffic onto southbound South Saunders Street (U.S. Highway 70/401, N.C. Highway 50), will close for several months. Crews will be working to safely do bridge and interchange work on the highway.

Instead of using the exit ramp loop onto South Saunders Street, drivers on I-40 West will take Exit 298-B and turn left or right at the traffic light of the bottom of the ramp to access the road.

Message signs alerting drivers about the change are located on I-40 West, state Department of Transportation officials said.
