WENDELL, N.C. — A former Wendell Middle School teacher who resigned this week is facing three counts of first-degree sexual offense against a child, authorities said Wednesday.

Ronald Alan Olson was arrested Tuesday, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office. The alleged abuse took place between August and October.

The victim is under the age of 13, according to an arrest warrant. Authorities have not said where the abuse took place or whether the victim was one of Olson's students.

Olson was hired as a sixth-grade language arts teacher at Wendell Middle School last August, according to a Wake County school system spokesman. He was suspended with pay on Friday, the same day the school system learned about the sex offense allegations.

He resigned on Monday.
