CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A former research assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was indicted on federal pornography charges Tuesday.
Kuo Hsiung Yang, 33, of 200 Westminster Drive in Chapel Hill, was arrested on 10 state charges of second-degree exploitation of a minor in November. Police said Yang duplicated numerous videos showing girls, some of whom appear as young as 8 to 10 years old, being sexually assaulted by men.

Yang was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of possession of child pornography.

Yang was employed at UNC at the time of his arrest but the school said that he is no longer a member of the faculty. School officials would not confirm if Yang was fired or resigned.

Yang had been employed by UNC beginning in 2012 and was working on research for HIV and AIDS.
