DURHAM, N.C. — A flight en route from Mexico to Canada made an unscheduled stop Friday night at Raleigh-Durham International Airport after a medical problem was reported on board, officials said.

The WestJet flight was heading from Cancun to Toronto when it touched down at RDU, according to airport spokesman Andy Sawyer. One passenger was taken to a local hospital, and four other passengers were treated at a staging area at the airport.

Sawyer said the unscheduled stop of an international flight prompted security delays. The remaining passengers waited for another WestJest plane to arrive and take them to Toronto. The second plane was set to depart from RDU shortly before 1 a.m.
