Five arrested for Rocky Mount home invasion

Deputies said the five suspects broke into the home of Milton Joyner in the 4500 block of Dortches Boulevard in Rocky Mount on April 1, tied up and robbed Joyner and Sherly Jeans.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — The Nash County Sheriff's Office has arrested five men and charged them in a home invasion that took place in April.

Deputies said the five suspects broke into the home of Milton Joyner in the 4500 block of Dortches Boulevard in Rocky Mount on April 1, tied up and robbed Joyner and Sherly Jeans.

Joyner was injured during the robbery but has since recovered.

Four of the suspects are charged with assault with a deadly weapon Inflicting serious injury, first-degree burglary, felony conspiracy, first-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The suspects were arrested at different times over the weekend and appeared before different judges, who set the bonds at varying levels despite the fact that the charges are the same.

They are:

  • Johnathan David Murray, 24, of 4170 Snow Hill Road in Nashville. His bond was set at $400,000.
  • Michael Eugene Bryant, 26, of 1339 James Road in Nashville. His bond was set at $75,000.
  • Robert William Dawes, 34, of 232 Old Farm Road in Roanoke Rapids. He was held on $400,000 bond.
  • Douglas Gene Whitfield, 39, of 1339 James Road in Nashville. He was held on $27,000 bond.

Roger Alvin Pittman, 21, of 5467 Redman Road in Rocky Mount, was charged with conspiracy and held on $100,000 bond.
