CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — A fisherman found a woman's body in the Cape Fear River Thursday around 5:30 p.m. in Fayetteville.

Tom Ferrell, 62, was fishing along the bank of the river.

Around 5:30 this evening, a fisherman in a boat noticed a body floating in the water and alerted him.

Ferrell called his 26-year-old son, Jackson Ferrell.

"I was shaken, you know," Jackson Ferrell said. "Dead body right here on the property. And it kind of make you wonder what, who it is and what happened."

"It got caught up in some trees."

Investigators said it was a woman's body, and she may have been in the water for a while.

The scene was off Carver Falls Road, not far from ZipQuest property. It is also not far from the bridge of the Outer Loop, or future Interstate 295.

Jackson Ferrell said he noticed a tattoo on the woman's arm, which may help deputies identify her.
