Fire damages part of east Fayetteville church

No injuries were reported early Wednesday when fire damaged part of a church on Sapona Road in east Fayetteville, officials said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — No injuries were reported early Wednesday when fire damaged part of a church on Sapona Road in east Fayetteville, officials said.

Firefighters responding to CD McNeill Memorial Church at about 5 a.m. battled flames on the back of the church. Much of the damage from the blaze was contained to the outside of the church, although the interior of the building was damaged by smoke, investigators said.

No information about the cause of the fire has been released. The Fayetteville Fire Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating.
