CARRBORO, N.C. — A fire damaged a NAPA Auto Parts store Thursday morning, but firefighters kept the blaze from reaching flammable liquids, according to the Carrboro Fire-Rescue Department.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the store on Brewer Lane when they arrived at 7 a.m.

Crews got past security bars and metal doors and mounted an interior attack on the fire, authorities said. They kept it from spreading to areas where flammable liquids were stored and brought it under control in less than a half-hour.

The Chapel Hill, New Hope and North Chatham fire departments and Orange County Emergency Medical Services also responded to the fire.

Firefighters said the store had significant fire damage in the office area and smoke damage throughout.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but no foul play is suspected, according to investigators.

The store was closed at the time of the fire. It did not have a fire alarm or sprinklers.
