Transformer fire in Cary
CARY, N.C. — A stretch of Walnut Street in Cary was closed Wednesday afternoon after a woman slammed her truck into a power pole on Walnut Street, igniting a fire.

Witnesses said the woman was driving too fast and may have lost control. When she hit the pole, her truck and the transformer burst into flames.

The driver was not seriously injured, said Susan Moran, a spokeswoman for the Town of Cary. She said charges are pending.

Power crews were inspecting the scene, and Moran said traffic would be diverted until about 7:30 p.m. Walnut Street was closed between Kildaire Farm Road and Byrum Street. Adjacent blocks of Walker Street are also closed.
