MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Fewer fliers passed through Raleigh-Durham International Airport this year, Airport Director John Brantley reported at a meeting of the airport board Thursday.

Brantley said he expected a year-over-year decrease of about 4 percent, citing the poor economy as a factor.

He also pointed out that carriers reduced flights and used smaller planes, to combat the rising cost of fuel, yielding fewer seats for travelers.
