Fewer passengers traveling through RDU

Posted December 18, 2008

— Fewer fliers passed through Raleigh-Durham International Airport this year, Airport Director John Brantley reported at a meeting of the airport board Thursday.

Brantley said he expected a year-over-year decrease of about 4 percent, citing the poor economy as a factor.

He also pointed out that carriers reduced flights and used smaller planes, to combat the rising cost of fuel, yielding fewer seats for travelers.

I hear people say rates were jacked up and maybe, but I flew roundtrip to LA for $244 right in the middle of high gas prices booking 3 weeks before. 2 years ago it would have cost $500.

I fly a lot and I have only seen nominal rises if at all.
