FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A woman reported that she was sexually assaulted in Fayetteville Thursday night, but police said they have no evidence to suggest the case is linked to a recent string of rapes.

The woman told police she was walking through the woods between Wildwood Drive and Aftonshire Drive shortly before 11 p.m. when an unidentified man assaulted her. She said she fell to the ground, and the man sexually assaulted her.

She provided police with a vague description of her assailant and told officers that she doesn't know how he fled the area.

Six women in Fayetteville and one in Hope Mills reported being raped by a man who broke into their homes, usually apartments. The incidents occurred between June and January.

Anybody with any information about the identity of this suspect is urged to call the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-433-1529 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).
