Edward McKay started in Fayetteville in 1974. The Raleigh, Greeensboro and Winston-Salem stores will remain open.
Posted — UpdatedOwners made the announcement Tuesday via Facebook.
"We will be selling our property in Fayetteville and closing our store there. We know this is going to be a big disappointment to you, but the economy in Fayetteville is just too challenging," owners wrote.
The property at 3720 Bragg Blvd. is up for sale, so owners aren't exactly sure when the store will officially close its doors. Store hours will be scaled back starting July 1. The store will be open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed on Sundays. Also on July 1, the location will be buying only textbooks. Those wishing to sell or get trade credit for other books, movies, games, children's books, music, vinyl, game hardware, electronics, audio books and gift items can go to one of Edward McKay's other locations in the area.
Edward McKay started in Fayetteville in 1974.
"We've watched some of you grow up coming into our store, and then bring your kids in to carry on the tradition. We're so grateful to all our longtime customers, and hope you will continue to come to the store as long as we're in Fayetteville," owners wrote.
