Fayetteville residents invited to discuss hiring of police chief

Fayetteville residents are invited to speak at a public meeting to discuss the selection of the city's next police chief.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville residents are invited to a public meeting to discuss the selection of the city’s next police chief.

The first meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 13 in the City Hall Council Chamber, 433 Hay St. The second meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 25 at Westover Recreation Center, 267 Bonanze Drive. Both meetings will be one hour.

City Manager Ted Voorhees will respond to submitted questions, and participants will have a chance to speak. Speakers may sign up in advance by sending an email to jlowe@ci.fay.nc.us or sign up at the venue before the meeting begins.

The job has been posted on the city’s website and will close Oct. 5. The applications will be reviewed in October.
Katherine Bryant, veteran officer with the Fayetteville Police Department, was named interim chief in July. She replaced Tom Bergamine, who retired.
