Fayetteville police searching for sexual assault suspect

Authorities are investigating an attempted rape that occurred around Friday around 1:30 a.m. in the area of Volunteer Drive in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Authorities are investigating an attempted rape that occurred around Friday around 1:30 a.m. in the area of Volunteer Drive in Fayetteville.

Officials said the investigation revealed that the victim was in the area of Person Street near B. Street, when she accepted a ride from the suspect. The suspect drove to an area near Volunteer Drive, where he physically assaulted and attempted to rape the victim, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 30s, between 6 feet and 6 feet 3 inches, medium build and appeared to smell like alcohol and marijuana.

Authorities said the suspect was driving a black or dark blue 4-door sedan with a baby seat in the back seat.
