— Fayetteville police said that an armed man tried to get officers to kill him, but no one was injured in the confrontation Thursday afternoon.

Officers were called out to Channing Drive in response to an attempted suicide shortly after 2 p.m., police said. Officers found a man outside a residence carrying a pistol.

The man pointed the pistol at the ground but yelled for police to shoot him. He eventually obeyed commands to lie down and drop the gun, but when officers approached him, he grabbed the gun again and struggled with them, police said.

During the struggle, the man fired one shot into the ground, police said. He was taken into custody without anyone being injured.

Police said they are considering whether to charge the man or order treatment for him.

Should have shot him when he grabbed the gun, but they probably didn't have time due to the struggle. Now the next time some idiot with a gun shoots, people will reference this story and wonder why they didn't not shoot

Hopefully, the gentleman will get treatment for his depression. The police officers are to be commended for the great job they did and that no one was hurt.

Story that shows LEOs doing their job and ONLY 4 COMMENTS!!!!

This story can not be true!!! Many on GOLO have clearly taught us that ALL LEOs are a bunch of bored, gun toting, aggressive, abusive people with no regard for the safety of others!! There must be a mistake!! Is it really possible that a LEO helped someone? No can't be! Can it?

no this man wasn't out to shoot other people, he was out to kill himself. so when you say he will be out and kill some other people, probably not. more about his own depression etc..

He grabbed the gun and then they struggled with him? That shows some amazing restraint on behalf of the cops. He'll be back out in no time shooting people at the mall. Then we'll wonder how such a tragedy could have been prevented.
