FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police arrested two men Sunday in connection with an assault that put a man in the hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators said Alphonso Swindell Carlton, 26, used an exercise weight to knock out Kendall Evans, 28, and left him bleeding and unconscious outside a home at 7541 Southgate Road early Saturday afternoon.

Carlton, whose address wasn't available, faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon and was jailed at the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $125,000 bond.

Jonathan Jackson, 26, was arrested on a charge of assault inflicting serious bodily injury, authorities said, but they provided no other information about his alleged involvement in the crime.

Authorities did not say what prompted the attack on Evans, who was listed in critical condition Sunday at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A person living at the home found Evans and called 911.
