Fayetteville police investigate sex assault, peeping

Officers responded to the peeping incident at about 2:25 a.m. A woman reported that a man knocked on her window, and when she opened her door, he tried to pull her outside. The woman told officers that she screamed, and the man jumped a fence and fled the area.

As officers investigated the case, they received another call from Bear Creek Circle about a sexual assault. A man fitting the same description as the suspect in the peeping case knocked on another woman's back door, and when she answered, he pulled her outside and sexually assaulted her, police said.

The incidents are similar to one reported on June 5 in the Bingham Drive area nearby, police said.

In that case, a woman told police she was smoking outside her home at about 5 a.m. when she saw a man at the side of her house. She said she went back inside, and when she looked out the window, she saw the man staring inside and touching himself.

Police said they don't think the cases are linked to a highly publicized string of rapes in the Fayetteville area between last June and January.
