Fayetteville police ID suspect in Carolina Square shootings

Detectives said Thursday they are looking for Jacoy Nathan Mahorn, 29, of 500 Santa Fe Drive in Fayetteville. Mahorn is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, four counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property.

The night of the crime, officers were called about 2 a.m. to Mickey's Gentlemen's Club, at 5121 Bragg Blvd., and found four people in the parking lot who had been shot.

Police identified the dead as Cornelius Tobias Jackson, 26, of the 1700 block of Gilmore Street, and Melissa Yamile Neal, 24, of Lumberbridge.

Laytoyia Whitted, 20, of the 1600 block of Gibson Street, was also shot, but her injuries were not life threatening.

Another man, John Mills, 40, of the 1900 block of Forest Drive, was trying to leave Carolina Square on a motorcycle when he crashed during the chaos, police said.

Police Chief Harold Medlock has said investigators think the shooting happened after an altercation that started somewhere else between two groups of people that know each other. He said specific people were targeted.

Police released a photo on Nov. 8 of a white SUV that was seen driving through the parking lot of Carolina Square just before the shooting. They did not say Thursday whether the photo helped them identify Mahorn as a suspect.
