Fayetteville police arrest robbery suspect after multi-hour standoff

A 29-year-old man wanted in Harnett County was taken into custody by Fayetteville police early Friday after a multi-hour standoff at a home Highland Avenue.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 29-year-old man wanted in Harnett County was taken into custody by Fayetteville police early Friday after a multi-hour standoff at a home Highland Avenue.

According to investigators, officers made contact with Brian Levi Byford at about 8 p.m. at a home in the 300 block of Highland Avenue. Byford refused to leave the home for about five hours, but he was taken into custody without incident at about 1 a.m. Friday.

The Fayetteville Police Department's Crisis Negotiator's Team made contact with Byford during the standoff, resulting in his arrest.

Byford is charged in Harnett County with robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and assault with a deadly weapon. He was in the Cumberland County jail early Friday.
