Fayetteville PD employee charged with drug trafficking
Nina Megan Joyce, 33, a civilian crash investigator for the Fayetteville Police Department was charged Monday with 10 felony counts of trafficking prescription painkillers.
Posted — UpdatedA pharmacist noted that Joyce filled two prescriptions within days of each other, and that raised a red flag, Police Chief Harold Medlock said.
Joyce is the wife of Lt. Todd Joyce, the department's public information officer. She has been employed by the department since Jan. 2007.
Medlock praised her work with the department, but said his officers could learn from her arrest.
"I think what we all need to do is pay closer attention to each other, and when we see something from a friend or a relative that just doesn’t seem correct about them, we need to ask those hard questions,” Medlock said.
As for those who worked with Joyce, "We’re going to grieve, but we’re going to be as professional as we always are," Medlock said.
Investigators have no evidence that Joyce was selling the painkillers to others. She allegedly had them for her own use, Medlock said.
Joyce resigned when she was arrested, and was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center on $65,000 bond.
