Fayetteville man sought in attack on ex-girlfriend

Police were searching Tuesday for a Fayetteville man accused of kicking in his ex-girlfriend's door and then punching, kicking and trying to strangle her.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police were searching Tuesday afternoon for a Fayetteville man accused of kicking in his ex-girlfriend's door and then punching, kicking and trying to strangle her.

Joseph Michael Woods, 27, faces attempted first-degree murder, felony strangulation and breaking and entering charges.

Officers responding to a report of assault on a female found the victim in home in the 5100 block of Arizona Court shortly after 7 a.m. She was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, but her condition was not released.

Police used a K-9 track to search for Woods but were unsuccessful.
