— Cumberland County authorities arrested a 22-year-old Fayetteville man and charged him with kidnapping and assaulting his wife on Sunday.

Jimmy Lee Proffitt II, of 1282 Tricia Drive, pointed a gun at his wife, forcibly removed her from their home and threatened to kill her following an argument, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

The incident happened inside the home the couple shared with a 7-year-old child, authorities said.

Proffitt was charged with first-degree kidnapping, possession of a firearm by felon and assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present.

He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond and was scheduled to make a first court appearance at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Detention Center Courtroom.

Keep him in jail and away from her. Do not let her go back to him.

This is the latest in a string of poor decisions this young man has made, including death by motor vehicle. It appears he is dangerous in the home as well as on the road. Hopefully he will be off the streets for a while this time.

what, crime in Fayetteville? It's so unheard of there... I can hardly believe what I read. Are they sure they are talking about the right town?

I agree while many blame the women, there are women who actually leave the situation and because the police or judge don't do their job the end up dead. Im still praying for the military woman who applied for a restraining order several times and it was denied. It took her husband brutally beating her in front of the judge in his chamber for her to get the relief she sought, but what happens when he gets out of jail.

"Man kills estranged wife in Nash County." how long before this will be her headline? I do mot want to be a heart less person, but this has to stop! While it is possible for this woman to have a normal life. We need to lock this man up. I do not care if he never gets out of prison!
