HOPE MILLS, N.C. — A Cumberland County man was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon Sunday after authorities said he hit his housemate in the head with a frying pan.

Cumberland County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Robert Shawn Donovan, 44, after he got into an argument with his housemate, 36-year-old Peggy Ann Perez sometime around 8 p.m. Sunday.

Donovan allegedly hit Perez with the frying pan while she was packing to leave the house they share at 3348 Welsh Lake Drive in Hope Mills.

Donovan called 911 after Perez fell to the floor and was not moving, authorities said. Perez was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She was diagnosed with a concussion but refused treatment.
