Fayetteville, N.C. — A 10-year-old Fayetteville girl died Thursday in a sledding accident in central Minnesota, authorities said.
Deputies in Meeker County, which is west of Minneapolis, said Emmi Barbaro was thrown from a sled when it hit a stump. She died at a nearby hospital.
Authorities said Emmi and her family were visiting her maternal grandparents for the holidays. The children were under adult supervision while sledding.
Emmi was a student at Fayetteville Academy.
