An 8-year-old girl accidentally shot herself in the leg Friday afternoon, police said.

<b>FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.</b> — An 8-year-old girl accidentally shot herself in the leg Friday afternoon, police said.

The girl found a loaded handgun in the master bedroom at 4021 Calver Court, in the Hillendale North subdivision, police said. She was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and was listed in stable condition.

A grandparent was at home with the girl at the time, said police.

The shooting remains under investigation.
