FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville contractor has been arrested on charges that he failed to do work at a house after accepting thousands of dollars in payment, police spokesman Dan Grubb said.

Christopher Paul Beard, 35, of the 4100 block of Edgedale Drive, was charged Thursday with two counts of felony obtaining property under false pretenses and failing to do work after payment.

Grubb said that Beard, who works for CBC Construction in St. Pauls in Robeson County, was paid $4,000 in May to install vinyl siding on a house, but he never bought the siding or began work.

Arrest records show that Beard was also charged April 17 on charges of felony obtaining property by false pretenses. He was arrested twice on larceny charges in 2008, but state Department of Correction records do not show any convictions.

Beard, who was also charged with driving with a revoked license, was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center Friday under a $6,200 bond.
