FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The City of Fayetteville made a second attempt to annex Gates Four Golf and Country Club.

The residents of Gates Four won a temporary stay from annexation when they fought a city plan in 2004.

Monday evening, the Fayetteville City Council took up the issue again, with an eye towards taking over the 600-home community by the end of October.

The council approved a resolution of intent 7 to 3. Public hearings must now be held on the matter.

Gates Four homeowners still oppose the plan, but have accepted it as inevitable, Mike Moline, secretary of the homeowners association, said.
