Everyday products part of Olympic terrorist threat

Posted February 5

Use toothpaste? Lotion or other skin care products?

Terrorists may try to hide bomb parts in those items and use them on flights bound for Russia and the Olympics, according to a recent warning from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Once in flight, the parts would be assembled to make a working bomb.

“Out of an abundance of caution, DHS regularly shares relevant information with domestic and international partners, including those associated with international events such as the Sochi Olympics,” the department said in a statement.

Federal officials have not said what prompted the warning. No specific flights have been named but Russia is now banning liquids in unchecked luggage.

The Sochi Olympics’ opening ceremonies are on Friday.

All many of us can do is wish them all the best. There are always threats but for whatever reason they seem a bit more real this time around. May just be an American perspective though.

Sad to say, it looks like for these Olympics it's not a matter of if but when--so close to areas of unrest, so many ways to attack. I sincerely hope that I'm wrong.

From what I've heard thus far, Sochi does not seem to have its act together for the Olympics. You'd think they'd be ready for such a big event that could bring great notoriety to the country! Don't they know years in advance so they can have ample time to get everything in order?
